Sandra Kay Kalata

Sandra Kay Kalata passed away peacefully at home on December 25, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends along her final journey. She was born on August 18, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN, to John and Geraldine Sherwood. At the age of 17, she married her late husband George Anthony Kalata until his passing on May 21, 2009. Together they shared over 53 years and many adventures, proving that true love can withstand time. She is also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Gates Sherwood.

Sandra is survived by her brother, Dave Sherwood; and her four children, Jody, George, David (and Olga), Stacey (and Ed) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sandra lived a beautiful life in Shoreline, WA, retiring in the early 90s alongside her husband, George. They spent much of their time with their Airstream club and camping with family and friends. Her passion for traveling continued after her husband's passing, making frequent trips to Yuma, AZ, to reconnect with her brother Dave and old friends.

Sandra was a social butterfly making friends wherever she went. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her loved ones. She also enjoyed many hobbies over the years including knitting, crocheting, scrap-booking, and most importantly, watching The Price Is Right every morning. She had a contagious laughter and her sense of humor was unmatched, always with a dose of sarcasm; something she never lost even during the rough times. Her care, love, and selflessness was constant; even during her final journey through hospice. She always had to make sure everyone around her was okay. Every time she hugged you, it felt like everything was right in the world and you always knew how much she truly loved you.

Sandra lived a beautiful 85 years and always made sure to leave an impression on those around her. She always looked forward to being with God and rejoining her loved ones who have passed before her. We take comfort in knowing she is at peace and that she will live forever in our hearts.

My cousin Sandra's obituary says everything that echos my remembering of her. Although we did not live close, every time we got together was a joyful and memorable event. I and Nina will not be able to attend her memorial, but her family should know our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
