Joyce Locke

Joyce Locke passed away from metastatic cancer, with loved ones by her side, on Feb 23, 2024, at the age of 71. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, January 28, 1953, to Betty L. Heller (Burns) and Harvey W. Heller.

Around 1965, Joyce’s family moved to Tacoma, Washington, where she spent her youth playing the organ and singing in the choir at Wilson High School, where she graduated, in 1971. She was also an avid reader and adored science fiction.

Joyce is survived by Susan Bradway, her best friend of over 30 years, and her only child, daughter Erin Kvande Abbott.

Per Joyce’s wishes, no services will be held, but if you would like to honor her, please consider making a donation to Evergreen Health Hospice, as they were integral to ensuring that Joyce passed comfortably, peacefully, and with dignity. https://evergreenhealthfoundation.com/ways-to-give/hospice/

Oh, Mama, this is so painful, surreal, and unfair. We had our struggles, and I’m not sure if it’s because of our similarities, differences, or a smattering of the two. Toward the end, we started figuring things out, and we both grew. Time is precious and fleeting- I desperately wish we had more of it. But I am so grateful that when you left this world, you knew, without doubt, that I love you. And I know that you loved me, too. I will hold onto that forever.
