Athalie “Lee” McMillen Long

Athalie “Lee” McMillen Long, Born May 24th, 1939, in Fort Wayne, IN; Died Friday, May 13th, 2022, in Seattle, WA.

Lee was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Elizabeth F. and Dale W. McMillen, Jr.  She lived most of her young life in Fort Wayne and attended DePauw University for two years.  She married in 1959 and raised three children. She was a teacher’s aide at Edwardsville High School, (Edwardsville, IL) where she also volunteered for the EHS Drama Club.

Throughout her life Lee invested in small businesses, making a tangible difference for small business owners working to do good in their communities. 

Lee was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  Many were touched by her compassion, her humor, and her convictions.    She was open and affirming of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities her whole life living in the Midwest and then on the West Coast.   She was an avid reader, a lover of animals and movies, and a wonderful cook. 

Lee is preceded in death by her brother, Dale W. McMillen, III (Terry).  She is survived by her three children Amy (Eric) Johnson of Federal Way, Anne of Seattle, Dan (Naomi Goodman) of Seattle, WA, brother John (Cindy) McMillen of Fort Wayne, IN, and four loving grandchildren.   

A memorial service for Lee will be held in the future.
