Betty Jean Giles

Betty Jean Giles left this Earth Thanksgiving Day, 2019 at the age of 97.  Mom grew up in Sumner, WA on her parents’ bulb farm.  She was predeceased by her parents, Edward C. and Grace Orton, brothers Bob (Loraine) and Stan (Colleen), husband Elmer M. Giles and son Daniel Norman Giles.  She is survived by two sons, Thomas Edward Giles (Mary) and David Carl Giles, a granddaughter Essie Learn, two great granddaughters, and her sister Marion deVink.  Mom was active in the Burien arts community, especially the Seahurst Art Gallery. Mom’s passion was her art classes where she encouraged students of all ages to draw and paint.  Mom spent her last few years at TLC Adult Family Home in southwest Seattle.  We are truly grateful for the excellent care that she received from Toni Malla and her wonderful staff.

Welcome to anyone who knew my Mom as a fellow artist, a student, a neighbor, a friend, and family.

I was always so proud of Aunt Betty and her beautiful artwork and pleased to have several of her pieces on display in my home. I loved that as she got older she grew to resemble our grandmother. I will miss our visits when we would reminisce about our family history and what it was like for her growing up on a daffodil farm. Rest in peace Aunt Betty.
