Robert Marwood Hitchens passed away in Burien on June 6th at the age of 78, surrounded by family. He is survived by his daughter Rev. Amy Hitchens, (Shannon Thomas) and granddaughter Naomi Thomas, his sister Beverly Morgan, his niece and nephews Wendy, Russell and Clint Morgan and his grand nephew Talon Morgan. He is predeceased by his twin brother Richard Grayland Hitchens and his mother, Hazel Emily Bishop Hitchens. He was a member of DKE and graduated from the University of Washington in Sociology. After completing ROTC, he served in the US Army completing his tour of duty as Captain. He worked at the Post Intelligencer in advertising and then at other national advertising firms. Using his marketing skill, he became a Realtor at Coldwell Banker until he started and managed his own small business. He was an avid contract bridge player belonging to the ACBL amassing over 8,500 master points. He was a daunting opponent and outspoken partner at the bridge table. In later years he loved to travel, especially to Mexico where he would often sing karaoke. He will be missed by his family and friends. A Memorial Service at Alki UCC, 6115 SW Hinds is scheduled for Sunday, June 28 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Highline Medical Center Foundation.
