Virginia Claire Mears went home to be with the Lord on June 18th, 2020 at age 93. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert, in 2003. She is survived by her three children, Raymond (Janice), Karen, and Sandra (Tom), her grandchildren Colleen (Mike), Chris (Kathryn), and Jonathan (Natasha), and five great-grandchildren. Virginia is also survived by her sister Alice, niece Donna, and nephew John. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard.
Virginia Claire Sherman Mears was born in Denver, Colorado in 1926 to Lucien John Sherman and Laura Sikes Keyes Sherman. When she was four years old the family moved to Laramie Wyoming. Virginia spent many hours of her childhood in movie theaters, and never lost her love of movies. After graduating high school, she worked as a telephone operator in Laramie.
In 1952 she met Bob while square dancing, and they were married three months later. Son Raymond was born in Laramie while Bob was attending the University of Wyoming. After Bob graduated, the family moved to Seattle where daughters Karen and Sandra were born.
Virginia loved cross word puzzles, reading, and traveling. She spent many years volunteering at Swedish Hospital. In later years, Virginia enjoyed living at a retirement center. Virginia loved her children, and took joy in watching Ray and Janice become grandparents. She also enjoyed the time she spent traveling with daughter Karen, especially the annual trip to the Oregon coast. She found joy in Sandra and Tom’s adoption of an adult daughter, Leah.
Virginia was a kind and gentle person. Everyone that met Virginia commented on her sweetness and her smile.
