Sherrell L. (Lou) Osborne

Sherrell L. (Lou) Osborne was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 16, 1938, and passed away May 6th, 2021 after a 13-year battle with melanoma. Adopted by relatives, Lou made his way to Seattle at age 10. He graduated West Seattle High School, class of 1956, and University of Washington in 1961. Lou met his wife Florence (Flo) at the UW. They married July 29th, 1961. This year would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary.

Lou worked for Boeing for 33 years. During these years and following retirement he and Flo volunteered once a month at St. Martin de Porres shelter for homeless men for 35 years.

After Lou retired in 1995, he enjoyed many travels with family and friends, including multiple visits to Europe, Russia, China, Mexico and Hawaii. He and Flo also cherished their daily walks together around their neighborhood and spending time in their backyard oasis. In his words, every day was a “gift.”

His greatest joy in life was Flo and daughters Lori and Lynn (who passed away in 2013 from lung cancer). He always said he was “raised by three strong women.” Also surviving; son-in-law Mark, grandchildren, Bryce (Raina), Elise, Emily, Kate (Kyle), Ryan (Haleigh), and greatgrandchildren Jacobe, Rylee, Cashlynn.

Lou was a man of grace and integrity, admired and respected for his quiet intellect. His passion for reading made him one of Amazon books favorite customers. He loved his neighbors and was renowned for loaning his various tools, ladders and offers of advice. Lou’s family and friends will miss him for his generosity, sense of humor and his love of Instant Folger’s and Top Ramen.

A devout Catholic, a funeral mass will be offered by Father Steve Woodland on Saturday, May 22nd at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena Church, Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made be made to a charity of your choice.
