Sadly, our beloved Philipp Trinkl died on Palm Sunday, March 24th. A dedicated member of the Austria Club since its inception in 1976, Phil served the Club in several positions including Editor of the newsletter “Kronen Zeitung” which was required to be in German in those early days.
Phil was born in 1928 in the Austrian province of Steiermark. He graduated as an electrical engineer and later decided to see the world. Emigrating to Canada as a young man, he arrived in Victoria, B.C. where he met and fell in love with his wife of 69 years, Josephine “Jo.” He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer and also as a hockey coach. Phil and Jo moved to Vancouver, B.C. where their children, Monica and Kim were born. The family moved to the Seattle area and Phil and Jo spent the rest of their lives in the Northwest. After retiring at an early age, Phil travelled the world with Jo and continued to pursue his lifelong pleasures – ballroom dancing, ice dancing, skiing, mountain climbing and making friends. Phil was proud of his family and grateful for his many friends.
We love you Phil. You will be missed.
Auf Wiedersehen.
The family plans to have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
