Nancy Phillips Perkins

d. January 21, 2019

Nancy Phillips Perkins, 98, died at her home in University House in Seattle, Washington on January 21, 2019 - Martin Luther King Day. This was fitting, as her civil rights activity in Atlanta, Georgia in the late 50's and early 60's was one of the things she was most proud of. She is survived by her five children, 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia, she attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College and went on to graduate school in Psychology at the State University of Iowa in Iowa City. There she met and married Charles Callahan Perkins. Their marriage lasted 74 years, until Charlie's death in 2016. Her academic career was interrupted by the birth of five children, but she received her PhD from Emory University in Atlanta in 1966. After Atlanta, the family moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where they lived from 1969-2005, and were active in the Peace Movement. Her life was long and fruitful, but her death leaves a hole in the heart of everyone who knew her.
