Meta “Marveen” Potter

d. April 2, 2022

Meta “Marveen” Potter was born 6/14/1940 in Seattle, Washington to Marvin Leroy and Ruby “Lois” Fitch.  She was the first born of 5 children to Marvin and Lois.  She grew up in Burien and attended Schools in the Highline School District. At 9 years old she contracted Rheumatic fever. At the time, they did not give penicillin to children.  She was in bed for 1 year and had to learn to walk again. In January of 1957, she married Dwight Potter (divorced April, 1975). They moved to Renton where she lived until her passing.  She had 3 boys, Kenneth, David Eric “Rick” and Donald. The boys brought such joy to her life.  She was the Kool-Aid mom.  Always having the neighborhood kids at her house.  Always taking the kids to the park or the lake. And rarely missing the boys’ games. At 25 years old, she had her first valve replacement, which was caused by the rheumatic fever.  Her 2nd was when she was approximately 40 and her last open heart surgery when she was 55. She never let her congestive heart failure slow her down until the last few years. She worked at the Highlands Convalescent Center for 20 years, then 405 Express Mini Market and finally at the 44th street McDonalds. She was an avid sports fan. She loved to work out and to garden. She loved the outdoors, the mountains, lakes and beaches. And she loved animals.  But most of all she loved her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

She leaves behind her children, Ken (Julie), Rick (Polly), Don (Stephanie) Potter.  Her grandchildren, Dustin (Kristin), Brett and Travis Potter and Dean Henault. Her great grandchildren, Mason and Paislee Potter. She also leaves behind her sisters, Maxine (Jim) Morris, Karen Kangas, Cheryl (Jim) Covey and brother, Byron (Kerri) Fitch.  And many, many nieces and nephews. No gifts please.  Donations can be made to animal rescue, she loved animals.  Her Celebration of Life will be at the Potter House 4/2/22 from 1pm to 5pm
