Mark Schoen of Seattle, WA. was born in Minneapolis, MN. on 10/21/1959, the son of Gerald and Margaret Schoen. He passed away at age 64 on 07/11/2024.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Dawn Porter of Seattle, WA., his sister Linda Morrison of Charlotte, NC., her husband Keith Morrison, and nephew Cameron Morrison. He is also survived by members of his ‘in-law’ family including 2 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law and 4 beloved nieces and nephews.
Mark graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. with a B.A. degree in journalism. He continued his education earning a Masters of Professional Accounting from the University of Washington. Mark worked as an accountant at The University of Washington and then moved to Seattle University where he found co-workers dedicated to educating students for a just and humane world.
Mark was above all a devoted husband and brother. He was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. James Cathedral. He enjoyed travelling with his wife. His latest adventure found them traveling by train through Australia. Mark loved all things baseball. As an armchair historian, his deep love and understanding of the game and its evolution impressed all who were privy to his stories. He was a Renaissance man which was evidenced by his appreciation of the arts: museums, symphony concerts and theatre. He was a voracious reader of diverse genres, which included poetry. Mark’s passion for photography found its way onto the cover of the book “Journey To The Sun” by Gregory Orfalea. Mark was a quiet, measured, kind and generous man. Mark had a strong work ethic and strove to earn the respect of his colleagues.
A funeral mass will be held at St. James Cathedral, 804 Ninth Ave., Seattle WA., on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 12:10 pm., reception immediately following.
