Marcelino “Lino” Solidum Sijera, a widowed husband, brother, uncle and friend has passed away due to cancer on February 10, 2015 at the age of 57.
Lino was born in Manila, Philippines on April 26, 1957 to Lamberto Sijera and Nicanora Sijera. Lino was one of ten siblings: three sisters and six brothers. He was the eighth child.
Serving in the Philippines Military Lino became very assertive. He was a proud solider and had many stories about his line of duty. Lino had to retire early due to injuries making him unable to return. His physical challenges never stopped him from continuing life, if anything it made him stronger.
Given the opportunity, Lino was able to migrate to Seattle, WA in 1987. Lino didn’t have any kids of his own but took care of his nieces and nephews as if they were his. Helping his siblings and in-laws they were able to work while Lino babysat their children. His nieces and nephews remember him as the uncle with the funny laugh, who told funny jokes and was fun-loving.
Lino enjoyed family traditions, horse racing, cooking, spending time with his nieces and nephews, sharing stories about old memories and walking around downtown.
As Lino got older he kept his personal life private. He didn’t want anyone to worry about him. He was very independent and took care of himself. Without the knowledge of his siblings Lino had lung cancer. Lino was very close to his brothers. He had their backs as they had his. He adored his sisters and cherished every moment he had with them. Noticed by his brothers, before his passing Lino’s presence were more often than usual. Only him knowing of his illness himself, it was hard for his siblings to comprehend. Lino was very joyful when it came to his family. Lino will be remembered as the uncle who showed his love by giving candy, the uncle who made them laugh and the man who loved his family.
