Lauren Thompson

April 24, 1985 — October 14, 2024

Lauren (Cartier) Thompson, born on April 24, 1985 in Seattle, Washington passed away on October 14, 2024.

Lauren is survived by husband Chase, son Rémy and daughter Cosette, twin sister Kendall (Cartier) Omlin and her husband Eric, their son Caleb and twin daughters Nora and Ellie, and her parents Tyler and Sue Cartier.

Words fail to capture the one-of-a-kind person Lauren was. Always loving, happy, resolute, and honest. With a look-you-in-the-eye (and heart) spirit of genuine caring. No nonsense in many ways but going anywhere, any time to comfort a friend. She had a rare gift for accepting people as they are without an agenda. And, above all, she was an incredible wife to her beloved husband Chase and attentive mother to two precious and precocious children, Rémy and CoCo.

Lauren was raised in the Magnolia area of Seattle, a small village within a big city. Practically from day one, she made her parents proud with her mindfulness, joyful attitude and intellect. Lauren learned quickly and thrived at school - never asking for help with math - a relief for both parents.

Lauren made lifelong friends at Catherine Blaine Elementary. Later, at Bishop Blanchet High School she brought a lovely voice to choir and a bright smile as a cheerleader — heavy on the pom-poms, light on the leaping. Together with (exceptionally) close twin sister Kendall, she spent 4 years at the University of Portland, graduating with excellent grades and even more importantly, treasured friends who have enriched her life beyond measure.

The September after graduation in 2003, Lauren put her fluency in French to the test, traveling to Amien, France to teach English to local schoolchildren. Of course, she was loved by all and particularly enjoyed their hour-long, multi-course lunches. While there, she was blessed with an epiphany that teaching was her true calling.

Coming home, Lauren did a stint as a student teacher at St. Thomas School. After completing the semester, they asked her to work there; the first teacher to be hired without at least 5 years of experience. Her ability to genuinely connect with young kindergartners and first graders continued for the next 15 years.

In 2012, Lauren met her future husband Chase through mutual friends. In a couple of years they married on a sunny day in late May of 2014 at Roche Harbor on San Juan Island. In 2016, their big son Rémy entered the scene. A few years later little Cosette (CoCo) made her grand appearance with a megawatt "energy" that continues to abound. What a mother Lauren was to those two and will continue to be watching and reveling in their every accomplishment.

The past fifteen months were very difficult and challenging for Lauren and her family on many levels. But through it all, she never wavered, doing everything humanly possible through medicine, PT and faith to keep moving forward. She kept putting one foot in front of the other...literally and figuratively. A few days ago, that courageous struggle ended for her time in this world. But if ever there was an angel on earth getting an express ticket to Heaven, we all feel it would be Lauren Mae.

There's a thin veil between this world and the next. And standing just on the other side is our Lauren. Watching us, loving us completely. And smiling.

Per Lauren and Chase's request, there will be a private celebration at a date to be determined. In lieu of cards or flowers, gifts may be made to Fred Hutchinson Melanoma Research. www.fredhutch.org
