Kathie Sue Harris

June 9, 1944 — September 20, 2024

Kathie Sue (Herman) Harris peacefully passed away on September 20th, 2024 at the age of 80 following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Seattle, Washington on June 9,1944 to Patricia Reidy Herman and Richard Myron Herman. She spent much of her childhood in Corte Madera, California. Her family moved several times, and Kathie began her high school education at Queen Anne High School in Seattle. Her family moved to Cannon Beach, Oregon in the summer of 1960, and Kathie entered her junior year at Seaside High School in Seaside, Oregon where she graduated in June of 1962.

In 1964 Kathie moved back to Seattle, and went to work for Group Health Cooperative. Over the years she was given increased responsibility and became well versed in the area of medicare. She retired from Group Health in 2007 as the Director of Medicare, to joyfully spend time with her grandkids.

While at Group Health, Kathie met the love of her life, Herbert (Herbie) Harris. They were married on April 19, 1969. Kathie immediately gained a son, Anthony Harris, through the union of families, and on November 25th,1974, Kathie and Herb had twin babies, Daeman and Alexes. Interestingly, they did not know she was having twins, until after Daeman was born and the doctor said, “wait, there is another one.” Kathie and Herb adored being supportive parents encouraging their kids to do and be anything they believed they could be.

Kathie was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Alexander Harris, parents, younger brother, Gregory Herman, cousin (like a sister) Vicki Eldridge, daughter-in-law, Nina Harris, and brother-in-laws Eddie Harris, Robert Harris, and Dick Wild.

Kathie loved her family, blood and choice, more than anything. So many shared meals with us over the years on Sunday nights in the Madrona house, and many knew her as Aunt Kathie. We cannot name everyone here, but she is survived by many who loved her and were loved by her, including; her three children, Anthony (Deborah) Harris, Daeman Harris, Alexes Harris (Eric Hampton), and grandchildren, Alexandria (Lavelle) Harris-Caver, Alana Hampton, Jaylen Hampton, and two great grandchildren, Aleyana and Asaiah Caver, and her beloved grand niece, Renee (Sean) Benning. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Christine (Arnold Slotte) Herman and Sandy Wild, and niece and nephews, Mariah (Julie) Lincoln, Lorin (Kaitlin) and Erin Herman, David and Casey (Linn) Wild, and Jason Egnew. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
