Jeanette Poppa Sharp, Ph.D, 79, died peacefully on March 19, 2024 in Seattle, WA, where she resided the past 4 years after having lived in Albany and Brooklyn NY most of her life.
Jeanette is survived by her 3 children, Peter, Christopher and Jennifer; her 9 grand-children; 3 great-grand-children; and her sister Geraldine. She is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Robert D. Sharp.
Jeanette was born in Queens, NY to Josif and Victoria Poppa. She developed macular degeneration at an early age which eventually progressed to complete blindness. Despite this hurdle, she earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from SUNY Albany. She worked at Albany Medical Center and held a private practice until her retirement in 2018.
She enjoyed being a member of the choir of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She will always be remembered as a thoughtful, loving wife and mother who valued, above all, family, education and hard work. She prided herself on helping her patients overcome mental health issues.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
