Gordon Everett Pomeroy died December 26, 2024, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Nancy Finch, his children Holly (Zac) Kopra, Barry (Rebekah) Pomeroy, Eric (Barb) Johnson, Ryan (Katie) Pomeroy and Lindsey Pomeroy; as well as 7 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, his younger siblings – 3 sisters and 2 brothers, brother and sister-in-law John (Dana) Finch, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Charlotte Pomeroy, his brother Steven Pomeroy and grandson, Elias Pomeroy.
Born in Portland, Oregon on December 2, 1949, he was the oldest of 7 children and grew up in the North Seattle area, a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1968. He married Kathleen Bridges in 1970 and had two children, Holly and Barry. In 1976 he married Beth Johnson and became a father to Eric, then had two more children, Ryan and Lindsey. In 2004 he married Nancy Finch and together they have their Princess pup, Gracie.
Gordon’s public service spanned more than 50 years. He joined the US Navy in 1967 and served his county for 3 years in Vietnam and served in the Navy reserves after that. His fire service career began as a volunteer firefighter for Mountlake Terrace Volunteer Fire Department in 1976. In 1979 he was hired by Shoreline King County Fire District #4 as a firefighter paramedic trainee and graduated from the 4th paramedic training class at Harborview Medical Center in 1980.
He served the greater Shoreline, Northshore, Kenmore, Bothell, and Juanita communities for 28 years as a Firefighter-Paramedic. During his time at Shoreline Fire, he served the International Association of Firefighters Local 1760 as an executive board member, taught EMT classes and took part in many community outreach programs. Gordon retired from Shoreline Fire Department in 2007. In 2008 Gordon was hired as an EMS specialist assistant in East Jefferson County and Port Townsend and assumed the role of Fire Chief shortly thereafter. As a hands-on chief Gordon also continued as a practicing paramedic, and his team built a world class EMS program while modernizing the consortium fire agency further. He again retired in 2017 but remained active in their emergency operations team.
During the 1990’s Gordon ran an international DNA testing development business and a movie medic business, providing emergency medical services on movie sets filmed in the northwest. He met many entertainment industry performers, including Halle Berry, Kevin Costner, Julia Stiles, Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, James Earl Jones, Tom Skerritt and many others. This quickly earned him the nickname “Hollywood”, in addition to his other nicknames, the “FYI Guy”, and the “Pomster.”
Besides his love of his career and family, Gordon also enjoyed traveling and boating, and took his children on many family camping and RV road trips throughout the USA. His wanderlust led him on several trips with friends, out of the country and overseas, and exploring the Pacific Northwest with Nancy and their little dog, Gracie, in their motorcoach. He loved his home teams, especially the Seattle Seahawks from day one, music and singing, and going for a “little nibbler” at his favorite local restaurants.
Gordon was loved by many, esteemed and appreciated by more, and will be missed by all. Pomeroy will be remembered by most everyone who met him along his journey as larger than life and one-of-a-kind. A celebration of Gordon’s life of service will be held on January 14th at the Nile Shrine Center in Shoreline, with a viewing at 2 pm and service with fire department honors at 3pm. A private burial with military honors will be held on January 15th with family and invited guests.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Medic One Foundation in Gordon’s memory.
