Eleanor Catherine Nelson (Nee Froslev)

d. February 7, 2017

January 27, 1935 – February 7, 2017

After a brief illness Eleanor passed away peacefully at the Swedish Hospital in Seattle.  She was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  After 8 years working for Hudson’s Bay Oil, she moved to Seattle at age 29. Eventually she enjoyed a wonderful 30 year career at Metropolitan Federal Savings & Loans (Washington Fed Savings).

During then and since retirement, she has been a vital and longtime (26 year) volunteer at NW Hospital in Seattle as well as at the Health & Rehab facility.  Eleanor was a 30 year survivor of a bone marrow transplant (Hutch 86) and volunteered at Fred Hutch for many years as a mentor and as ‘The Toy Lady’ to patients who also underwent a BMT.

She was a world traveler, always making friends along the way.  Her greatest friendships were made in Seattle, where she worked, volunteered and generally helped mankind where and when she could with her generous, kind nature and spirit.  She was loved by many – her family in Canada and her many friends in Seattle. She was well known for her keen wit and terrific sense of humor.

Eleanor was predeceased by her mother Metha Laura Froslev, her father, Walter Froslev and siblings, Anna-Marie Hansen, Helen Farch and Ivan Froslev.  She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and their families.  At her request there will be no service.  Cremation with ashes to be interred over Puget Sound.  Those wishing can send contributions in her name to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research.
