Diane Christophe, devoted mother, proud grandmother, loving sister, and loyal friend, passed away on March 27, 2025, at The Broadview Center (formerly Foss Home) in Seattle, Washington. She was 78 years young.
Born on November 3, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Diane was the third child of the late Alvin Gabriel Christophe Sr. and the late Shirley Mae (Young) Christophe. Raised in the 7th Ward of New Orleans, she graduated from Joseph S. Clark Senior High School before setting out on her own at age 17—relocating to Seattle, Washington, where she would build a life defined by strength, independence, and unwavering pride in her family.
Diane dedicated over 20 years of her professional life to public service as a Metro Transit bus driver for King County, Washington, from 1988 to 2005. She loved the job and the people—especially her favorite route, Route 27, up and down Yesler Way. Known for her reliability, order and warm smile, she built strong relationships with her regular passengers, many of whom brought her food and friendship over the years. In turn, she would sometimes buy cheeseburgers and share them with shelterless folks who rode her bus. Prior to Metro, she worked at Bethlehem Steel, earning respect as a dedicated and hardworking presence in a demanding role while raising her children and contributing to her community.
A passionate athlete and leader, Diane was deeply involved in youth and adult sports in Seattle. She coached girls’ CYO basketball and soccer at St. George Parish, earning multiple championship titles. As a player-coach for the women’s softball team REXAIR, she helped lead her team to success in the Green Lake league and USSA tournaments throughout the 1980s. Known for her competitiveness, skill, and mentorship, she earned the respect of teammates, players, and parents alike.
After retiring due to health reasons, Diane remained deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren, making birthdays, attending school events, supporting their interests, and staying closely connected to her family. She took special pride in being present and engaged, always showing up when it mattered most.
Diane was known for her resilience, outrageous remarks, and unmistakable presence. She stood firm in her beliefs, never hesitated to speak her mind, and approached life with boldness and authenticity. She carried herself with pride and was fierce in her support of those she loved. Her legacy is one of perseverance, dignity, leadership, and love expressed through action.
She is survived by her life partner, Martha (Marti) Lindeman; her children: Andra Christophe, Darlene Jenkins (Henry), Liliana Williams (Percy), and Cabrina Bell; her grandchildren: Blair Christophe, April Christophe, Henry Jenkins Jr., Jessica Jenkins, Aaron Jenkins, Jasmine Jenkins, Breana Scatliffe (Shamar), and Nelson Cooper IV; her sisters: Marie Terrance (Melvin, deceased), Peggy Christophe Goodwin (Kirby, deceased), and Joy Jolevare (Irwin); and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Antonio Christophe-Cado; her grandson, Andra Christophe Jr.; and her sister, Lillian Christophe.
Diane Christophe lived a full and courageous life. She laid a foundation of hard work, independence, loyalty, and generosity—values that continue to echo through the lives of those she loved and led.
In her memory, please continue to do all you do to help underserved kids and their families thrive.
