David John Magden passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 1, 2024 at the age of 70 after a brief battle with cancer.
David was born in Seattle, WA on April 18, 1954 to J. Lorraine and Ronald Magden. He grew up in Tacoma as the oldest of four with Linda, Paul and Kim. In such a full house he developed the patience and stoicism he became known for. The house was full of music with his mother giving piano lessons and he began building a collection of rock records. This led to a lifelong appreciation and passion for listening to music and concerts that couldn’t be held back by his partial deafness.
David graduated from Wilson High School in 1972. During his high school years, he began a landscape and gardening business that he continued for 58 years. He kept many of his clients for decades and built strong friendships over coffee during breaks. He loved driving and could often be seen in his pickup truck hauling lawn care equipment.
In 1978, at Tower Lanes Bowling in a tournament, David met Sharron. They married on October 6, 1979 at St. Patrick’s Church in Tacoma. Along with sharing a love of music, they traveled across the U.S. to see friends, attend concerts and go on cruises. They lived in Gig Harbor, WA then later moved to Tacoma, WA.
Family was always important to David. He would have coffee with his father and mother before work. David and Sharron would frequently invite their family and friends along with them on vacation to destinations such as Depoe Bay, Leavenworth, Seaside and Hawaii. He could always be found in the hot tub and never met a stranger he didn’t like. They often visited the Disney parks and brought their nieces and nephews along. David was always up for an adventure and would never back down from a thrill ride or ice cream cones.
David is survived by his wife, Sharron Magden, her sister Lori (Curtis) Barnett; siblings Linda (Jerald) Berger, Paul Magden, Kimberley Magden; nephews Jeffrey (Teresa) Berger and Joel Berger; nieces Tracey (Alex) Weihing, Amanda (Matt) Peterson and Jessica (Ray) Fox; grand-nephews Brayden, Damien and Carter.
