Calvin C Dauel

d. April 13, 2024

Calvin (Cal) Christian Dauel, a current Lynnwood WA resident, passed away on April 13, 2024, at Swedish Hospital-Edmonds from a gall bladder infection. He was born on October 4, 1938, in Ponca, Nebraska.  Cal is survived by his wife, Alta Lee (Wold) Dauel, sons Ronald and wife Lynn, Christian and wife Heather, and Alton (AJ) Dauel; grandchildren; Jody Otto, Melissa VanWeelden, Tracy Raska, Elizabeth Roberdeau,  Niko Dauel, Malina Dauel, 8 great grandchildren; and nieces Heather Maze, Robin Thomas and Jennifer Warrick. Parents Edward and Elna Dauel preceded him in death as did sister Charlotte Thomas. Cal spent his early childhood years on a farm learning that he did not want to milk cows for the rest of his life. When he was 12 years old, the family moved to Denver, CO, where his father opened a furnace business. Cal then learned that trade. After graduating from the University of Colorado, he worked at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal for a period, then took off for Oregon to teach math at the Klamath Falls High School. The next adventure was working as an Ammo Inspector for the U.S. Army. Cal had a lifelong desire to adventure in Alaska, so in 1970 that’s where he went. He worked as an Alaska State Park Ranger for a few years, and this was the favorite job of his life. After marrying Alta in 1972, he transferred to take a job as a Labor Economist for the State of Alaska Department of Labor. He advanced his career to become the Administrative Officer for the Southcentral District of the State of Alaska, Department of Labor, the job from which he retired in 1995. He worked for the State of Alaska for 25 years. Cal enjoyed camping and fishing and was a dedicated sports enthusiast, especially football and hockey. He was also a gifted Mr. Fixit. In 1995, Cal and Alta purchased a home in Lynnwood WA, where she still resides. A Celebration of Life will be held later.
