Beverly Monton Butterfield

d. September 14, 2021

July 21, 1932 - September 14, 2021

Bev died in her sleep from natural causes on September 14, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Butterfield, on June 26, 1999. Survivors include her beloved and very special daughters Pam Butterfield, DDS (Al Cabodi) of Federal Way and Carolyn Butterfield of Marysville. Her two grandsons, David Dennis (fiancé, Bailey Campbell) of Willows, California and Alec Dennis (fiancé, Kaitlyn Gate) of Federal Way were her reason for living to the age of 89. "I just want to live to see them graduate from high school", which she did and was also fortunate to see them both graduate from college. Also, survived by her brother Douglas Monton, niece Christy Hage and her family, and cousins Veronica and Michael Schoettler of Sydney, Australia. She was preceded in death by her brothers David and Daniel Monton.

Bev was born and lived almost her entire life in West Seattle. She graduated from West Seattle High School in 1949 and continued her education at Seattle University graduating and completing an internship at Providence School of Medical Technology. She was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (Registry of Medical Technologists). She traveled often to meetings involving the early development of contact lens and was one of the many pioneers of the early "hard" lens to the "soft" lens concept. She spent her later years working and then retired from West Seattle Eye Clinic. Raising her daughters, she was active on local and state levels of the PTA/PTSA. As president of Alki PTA she was awarded the "Golden Acorn" for her service to the community and public schools. As a Guild member of the then "Children's Orthopedic Hospital" she chaired the West Seattle Project Parade and several "Penny Envelope Drives". Always a member of the Woodland Park Zoo, she supported many animal protection groups, both local and national.

At her request, there will be no services. Remembrances may be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, Seattle Children's or Medic One.
