Andrea Bronwyn (Lewis) Browning passed away on February 16, 2024, in Seattle, WA after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, a rare incurable lung disease. At the time of her death, she was lovingly surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She had just celebrated her 79th birthday.
Bronwyn was born in Auckland, New Zealand, the third child of Reginald “Pete” and Shirley Lewis. At the age of 16, her family sailed the long journey to the United States. The Lewis family eventually settled in West Seattle, which included a connection to the LDS church whose sense of community cushioned the jarring transition for the family. Bronwyn began her new life as a teenager in America with her siblings including eldest brother Peter Lewis, brother Rex Lewis, and sister Linda McCarthy.
A caretaker at heart, Bronwyn’s career started with at home childcare and concluded in healthcare. With 17 years at Providence Marionwood, she and her toy poodles Toby and Belle strutted down the hallways comforting patients and making lifelong friends. Swedish Medical Center was lucky to have her in the final phase of her career with her welcoming smile as she checked in patients for seven years.
Family and community remained paramount over her lifetime. Bronwyn honed her listening skills which made her easy to talk to and was someone who could always make fast friends. She delighted in the resurgence of Birkenstocks, tie-dye and all things sparkly which she would argue never went out of style from her time as a young mom. In retirement, Bronwyn was able to relax with bird watching and sunset dinners on the waterfront both in Seattle and during a bucket list trip back to New Zealand in 2020. Bronwyn focused on her health as a sort of hobby mixologist, by pressing her own fresh juices and diffusing her vast collection of essential oils for aroma therapy. She also found joy in supporting the local Seattle sports teams, but the America’s Cup races were the pinnacle since she could cheer on her beloved Kiwis.
Bronwyn was predeceased by her parents and brother Peter. She is survived by her children, Shauna Benham; Cherie LeCates and husband Jeff; Ian Benham and wife Johanna; and Bronwyn Lee Bradford. Additionally, her five granddaughters, Kelsey and Erin McDonnell; Rhiannon and Kalani Ross; and Jetta Benham. We will all miss her dearly.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 p.m. - 729 N 190th St, Shoreline, WA 98133.
As Bronwyn was a lover of animals, the family has chosen Tacoma Humane Society for contributions in her honor.
