Irene E. Peterson

Irene E. Peterson passed on the evening of June 14, 2016. She was born in Eagle Bend, Minnesota on May 25, 1923. She lived a full life and in the end was ready to go and reunite with her husband, sister, a multitude of other relatives and many friends.

After leaving Eagle Bend, she went to a business college in Minneapolis, got married to Durwin Peterson, who was in the Army Air Corps, and moved to San Antonio. After the end of World War II, they moved to the Minneapolis area. She and Durwin bore two sons, Jerry and Bruce, before he was transferred to a better job in Bismarck, North Dakota. When business declined they chose to move to Seattle in 1960 and spent the rest of their lives living here.

Irene worked in the Sears Credit Department for many years and then spent many more traveling with Durwin as a co-pilot in two airplanes and later as a navigator in several RVs. They also found it pleasant to spend winters in an Arizona condo. In between, they managed to travel to Erope several times and also chaperoned nurses-in-training to Japan and Taiwan. They also housed visiting nursing students attending Seattle Pacific University. The travel was reduced when Durwin passed in 2003, but she was able to make a few trips to see relatives.

She was proud of both of her sons and found great joy in her granddaughter Katie and in her great grandchildren, Lily, Payton and Addison.

She was a longtime member of Calvary Temple and accumulated many wonderful friends who continued to visit and support her in her last years at the Nordic Woods Adult Family Home. She was well cared for during her last few years even though she found it hard to be in a position to be cared for, as opposed to caring for others. She reconized the need for and appreciated the care and support of those caring for her.

A delayed memorial open house will be held in late September due to medical travel restrictions for her son Bruce.
