Son of Earl J. and Mildred Sutherland, preceded in death by his brother Bill and sisters Kathleen and Jean, Earl died peacefully among family. A loving family man and devoted husband, he leaves behind his wife of 43 years Marion; son Earl M. (Nancy) grandchildren Anna, Catherine, Grace, Jamal and Christopher; step children Chrystal Weinberg (John) and Clyde Merriwether (Jackie). A child of God, he was a long-time member of Seattle First Baptist Church, and served six years on the board of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society. Earl was particularly proud to have retired as a Colonel in the US Army, serving in India in WWII, beginning a life of travel. After graduating from Michigan Tech in 1950, his career in metallurgical engineering took him all over the world, including four years in Sao Paolo, Brazil. A raconteur with many friends from all walks of life; he was an avid reader, collector and car lover befitting his roots in Detroit. Earl will be remembered at the 11a.m. church service at Seattle First Baptist Church (SFBC) July 6. Family requests remembrances as blood donations (he was a generous blood donor), to Salvation Army or SFBC World Missions.
