Dorothy Bras

Violet FlowerDorothy (Dot) Sophia Weiland Bras passed away March 9, 2013. Born January 22, 1930, she was the sixth of seven children born to Louis and Ottilia Weiland of Ethan, South Dakota.

In 1951 she came to Seattle where she met and married Chuck Bras. She obtained a degree in Art Education at UW and then taught school at Mercer Junior High until her retirement in 1990.

Dot had a wide range of interests. She loved dogs, baseball, the fine arts, the symphony and the opera. She had a sense of adventure and loved to travel.

Most of all she loved her family and friends. She made her home a favorite gathering place where all were welcomed and well fed.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Berntsen, of Vallejo, CA, and by her brother, Dr. Louis Weiland, of Hager City, WI, as well as by many nieces and nephews.

For the past ten plus years Dot has resided at the Joy Adult Family Home in Shoreline. We are deeply grateful for the conscientious care and unfailing kindness she has received in the last decade of her life.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline on Wednesday, March 20, at 10:00 a.m. Burial follows at 11:00.

Dottie was a bright spot in our Hemmen family home for many years. I have sweet and beautiful memories of her. I have thought of her many times over the years. God bless you Dottie.
