PEOPLE’S MEMORIAL Funeral Cooperative is a leader in providing greener options at end-of-life. We are the only funeral home in Seattle certified by the Green Burial Council. The co-op offsets the carbon produced from all of our cremations by investing in wind and solar energy through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, a Northwest nonprofit. In addition we plant a tree in honor of each person we care for through American Forests.
PEOPLE’S MEMORIAL Funeral Cooperative provides green burial services in cooperation with green cemeteries in the state. Green burial involves no chemical preservation of the body, placement in a biodegradable casket or cloth shroud with burial directly into the soil. No concrete grave liner or vault is used. Instead of a manicured lawn, a green cemetery is typically graced by native grasses, trees and shrubs. No monuments punctuate the landscape. Instead, the surface is preserved as a greenspace for future generations to enjoy.
